How to Extend the Battery Life of Your Mobility Scooter

Sealed lead acid batteries are most commonly used in JTE Mobility Scooters. SLA batteries use lead plates and electrolyte to create a rechargeable energy source.
If you want your mobility scooter batteries to last as long as they can, you can do a few things to dramatically extend their lifespan. Here we have 7 Precautions for the use of SLA batteries.
- Voltage Check: Check that the voltage of SLA batteryof the scooter should be between 26V-27V, andrequire to charge if the SLA battery voltage is lower than 25.5V, otherwise will affect the life of the SLA battery.
- Timely Charge:it should be charged in timeafter use. If the SLA battery is in a state of under voltage for a long time, the internal SLA battery is damaged and the voltage will decrease, which will not reach the voltage to make the charger turns green so that the charger will continue to charge until the SLA battery is inflated. The charging time should between 8-10 hours (when the SLA battery is completely empty), please pay attention to the charging time as the SLA battery remaining capacity would be different after every time of use, so the charging time is different too. If it is a troublesome, suggests to buy a alternating current Timer to set a time for each charge. For general charging, you can watch the charger turn green and then unplug the charger and SLA battery. Please note to plug in the power supply of the charger first and then plug in the SLA battery when charging, and unplug the SLA battery first, then unplug the charger when fully charged. Pay attention to the sequence.
- Never store empty SLA battery:Strictly prohibitedto drive when the SLA battery is in a state of under voltage: Do not charge when the SLA battery is completely dead and the scooter cannot move anymore, this will seriously damage the performance of the SLA battery. Multiple deep discharges will greatly shorten the SLA battery life (the number of deep charge and discharge of lead-acid SLA batteries is generally 350 times). It must be fully charged at a time. Using it before it is fully charged will reduce the service life of the SLA battery.
- Avoid Extreme Temperatures: Do not charge when the temperature is too high or too low: the SLA batteryitself will generate a small amount of heat during the charging process. Charging at high temperature will increase the temperature of the SLA batterybody and damage the performance of the SLA battery (one of the reasons to cause inflation of the SLA battery); when the temperature is too low, the acceptability of the SLA battery is poor and the activity is weakened, which cause the SLA battery power is insufficient and increase the time of charge and discharge, so the SLA battery life is shortened.
- Prevent the SLA batteryfrom being exposed to the sun:the SLA battery cannot be charged immediately after being exposed to the sun, otherwise it will cause the SLA battery to crack or deform. Be sure to wait until it cools down before charging.
- Battery Check: When the SLA batteryis fully charged (generally within 10 hours of charging), if found that the voltameter of the scooter showed that the power is full after stops but the meter suddenly drops down after accelerate, or the use time of the scooter is shortened obviously after every time of fully charge, please stop to use the scooter and ask professionals to test and check whether it is a SLA battery problem.
- Suitable Temperature: The most suitable operating temperature of SLA batteryis at +25℃, and the time of usewill start to decrease when below +10℃.
Maintenance of SLA batteries when have not been used for a long time
Storage Temperature | Time between every charge | Method |
Lower than 20°C | Once in every 6 months | Use the standard charger to charge 8-10 hours |
